Pregame Interview with Ben Hewett
(Avon, OH) – Home runs were the name of the game Wednesday as the Slammers made it two in a row in a 3-1 win over the Lake Erie Crushers.
After a scoreless first inning, Joliet erupted for three runs in the second. Erik Lis walked to start off the inning, and Zach Mandelblatt promptly put the Slammers up 2-0 with a home run. In the next at-bat, Joliet made it back-to-back when Kyle Maunus sent one soaring to take a three-run lead.
The Crushers got on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning when Rogelio Norris hit a solo shot to cut the lead to 3-1.
After tying the franchise records for strikeouts in a game during his last start, Steven Maxwell threw another gem: seven innings, just three hits, while walking one and fanning seven. Daniel Carela and Amalio Diaz finished the game for the Slammers, while Eric Gonzalez-Diaz was stuck with the loss after giving up three runs in the second.
Joliet wraps up the road trip Thursday in Ohio before returning to Silver Cross Field on Friday. Fans can catch the action live on AM 1340 WJOL, and streaming live online at www.wjol.com, with Aaron Morse calling the action.
