Pregame Interview with Bart Zeller
(Joliet, IL)- Magic was in the air Friday night on Disney Night at Silver Cross Field, as the Slammers broke their three-game losing streak in a 4-2 win over the rival Windy City ThunderBolts.
After two scoreless innings, the Bolts got a run across in the third off an RBI single by Chris Wade, and another in the fourth when Bob Glover singled to bring home Brandon Decker, making it 2-0.
Joliet would go on to score four unanswered runs, starting in the fifth. In a two-out rally, Patrick Norris and Hector Pellot singled, and both came across on an Abel Nieves two-run double. Erik Lis immediately followed that up with an RBI single, taking the 3-2 lead.
The Slammers tagged the insurance run in the eighth when David Fox singled home a run, giving the game its final 4-2 score.
The game’s outcome was in jeopardy in the ninth during Amalio Diaz’ pitching performance. With two outs, runners were on the corners for Windy City, but Fox made a full-extension diving catch in deep left-centerfield, securing the 4-2 victory.
Jacob Sanchez earned the win in seven innings, while Mike Barsotti was the bridge in the eighth, and Amalio Diaz notched the save.
The Slammers wrap up their six-game stint at Silver Cross Field Friday against the rival Windy City ThunderBolts with the series tied 1-1. Fans can listen live on AM 1340 WJOL with Aaron Morse and Greg Talbott calling the action.
