Pregame Interview with Eric McGee

(Evansville, IN)-  Mother Nature was not on Joliet’s side Thursday night in Evansville: thunderstorms forced a rainout in the eighth inning, handing the Slammers an 8-6 defeat and the Otters the sweep.

Evansville got on the board in the home half of the second when Steven Marino hit a two-run home run, and followed up with another pair in the third on a double by DeAngelo Mack for the 4-0 lead.

Joliet began to claw back into the ballgame in the fourth on a two-RBI double by Eric McGee to cut the lead in half. But Evansville struck again in the fifth when Nick Schwaner went yard on a three-run bomb to make it 7-2.

The Slammers added runs in the latter innings off RBIs from Erik Lis, David Fox, and David Christensen. The Otters tacked another on in the eighth to give the game its 8-6 final score.

The rains came in the bottom of the eighth inning at Bosse Field, and the game was finalized, giving the Otters the sweep.

Jim Schult was shaky in his start, surrendering seven runs through five frames, while Dustin Quattrocchi and Geoff Brown tossed in relief.

The Slammers head back to Schaumburg Friday to open a three-gamer with the Boomers. Fans can listen to the game on AM 1340 WJOL with Aaron Morse calling the action.
