Keeper of Silver Cross Field voted the best groundskeeper in the league…
(Joliet, IL) – The Joliet Slammers are proud to announce that their groundskeeper Guy Massaro has been named the Frontier League’s Groundskeeper of the Year.
The award was voted on by the league’s general managers, coaching staffs, and local media in all markets.
“Guy is very deserving of this award,” Slammers President Bill Waliewski said. “He’s extremely hard working and has kept the field in terrific shape over the past two years. We are very proud to have him in our organization.”
“I was shocked when I learned I won the award,” Massaro said. “It certainly helps makes those 16-hour days sweating on the field a little better. I want to thank my crew, Roger Bossard, Mike Tlusty and Dr. Green for all their help this season.”
The Slammers are also happy to announce that media partner the SouthtownStar has been named the league’s Newspaper of the Year.
This marks the second straight season the Slammers have earned post-season awards. In 2011 Bill Waliewski and John Dittrich were named the Frontier League Executives of the Year while Bart Zeller earned Manager of the Year honors and Ryan Quigley was named the league’s Relief Pitcher of the Year.
