What is Spikes’ Super Students?
Spikes’ Super Students is an incentive program that the Joliet Slammers sponsor in local schools and libraries. The Slammers, Joliet’s professional baseball team, recognizes and wants to encourage the importance of reading within the schools libraries of Will, Grundy, and Cook counties as well as the surrounding communities.
How does it work?

As the teacher, school administrator, or librarian, you know better than anyone the capabilities of your students and what needs to be done to challenge them. Instead of the Slammers setting a goal for you, we would like to provide flexibility by allowing you to create the goals. This can include the number of hours or books read, perfect attendance, meeting goals on state testing, or other academic related goals.
How can I get my students excited about the program?
Each participating school/library will receive one (1) complimentary mascot appearance by Spikes or JL Bird. The appearance can be at a reading night, an assembly to kick off the program or in any other manner you think might be helpful. There is a limit of one (1) hour per appearance, the appearances must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance and are dependent on mascot availability.
What do the students receive?
Each student that meets the assigned goal will receive:
- One (1) free Reserved Seat ticket to a 2026 Joliet Slammers baseball game (additional Reserved Seat tickets for family are just $9 when ordered at the same time!). A Reserved Seat is an actual fold down seat in the ballpark, not a General Admission Lawn ticket.
- We are also offering a $10 food voucher for families to purchase. This will include a hot dog, with chips and a fountain drink.
