SPIKE'S SUPER STUDENTS

What is Spikes’ Super Students?
Spikes’ Super Students is an incentive program that the Joliet Slammers sponsor in local schools and libraries. The Slammers, Joliet’s professional baseball team, realize how important education is and want to encourage it among the youth of Will, Grundy, and surrounding counties.

How does it work?
Classrooms, schools, and libraries can sign up by contacting the Joliet Slammers. Once you have registered for the program, you’ll receive a confirmation packet via email. This packet will contain a letter to send home to parents regarding the program, order forms to be handed out to the children as they complete their goals, and a page that can help track any reading goals you might set.

As the teacher, school administrator, or librarian you know better than anyone the capabilities of your students and what needs to be done to challenge them, so instead of imposing a set goal on you, we want to offer some flexibility by allowing you to set the goals. It can be number of hours read, number of books read, perfect attendance, meeting goals on state testing, or other academic related goals.

How can I get my students excited about the program?
Each participating school and library will receive one (1) complimentary mascot appearance by our loveable dog Spikes. The appearance can be at a reading night, an assembly to kick off the program or in any other manner you think might be helpful. There is a limit of an hour per appearance and the appearances must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance.

What do the students receive?
Each student that meets the assigned goal will receive:

  • One (1) free Reserved Seat ticket to a Joliet Slammers baseball game (additional Reserved Seat tickets for family are just $5 when ordered at the same time!). A Reserved Seat is an actual fold down seat in the stadium, not a General Admission Lawn ticket.
  • Ability to participate in a special parade during the game they attend.
